Ratchet straps

For reliable fixation of goods during transportation, system of ratchet straps are used. Without additional fixation, the load is held only by frictional force and is subjected to inertia, which can lead to displacement or even damage of the transported products. In order to increase the frictional force and prevent displacement, the load is fastened with the help of ratchet straps.

By configuration, there are two main types of ratchet straps:

• Ring ratchet strap. It is an integral construction consisting of a textile tape in combination with a ratchet element. This type of strap allows wrapping the load around and fixing it completely.

• Two-part ratchet strap. Such straps are most often fastened by pressure method, but they can also be used as ties. They consist of two parts:

1) Detachable component of strap: a long strap tape with a hook at the end of it.

2) A short belt strap, without length adjustment, with a ratchet mechanism and a hook at the ends.

The joining elements (hooks) are an important part of the ratchet strap and are used for locking the goods at the tie-down points.

Ratchet straps produced by KhPPC are made of high-strength synthetic fibers. The main material is polyester, polyamide or polypropylene, depending on the required physical and chemical properties of the products.

When using ratchet straps, it is significant to consider the weight, coefficient of friction and shape of the transported goods. If the product is fixed by the pressure method, it is recommended to use at least two straps. During direct fastening, the working load should be taken into account.

1. Straps are intended solely for mounting and fixing the transported goods, and not for lifting or any other manipulation of it.

2. It is allowed to use only undamaged straps.

3. The working load on the straps should not exceed the maximum permissible one.

4. It is forbidden to pull the straps on a sharp surface to avoid damage.

5. The belts are evenly installed over the entire width of the load, without knots.

6. Before each use, it is imperative to check the ratchet straps for their integrity.
